Spending Time With God
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”
- Mark 1:35
Recently, I was able to go on an outreach to Montana. We were there to serve, and it’s amazing all the work that gets done in the short amount of time that we are there. One of my favorite things about going to Montana, however, is being able to spend time with my church family and getting to know some of the students and staff there. Relationships are what it is all about; being there to pray and encourage one another.
God wants us to spend time with Him as well - quiet time; time without distractions. When I looked at the beautiful mountains that surround Lakeside, Montana, it reminded me of when Jesus would go off by himself to a solitary place, away from all the people and distractions, to spend time with God. Jesus spent time talking and listening to God. Jesus prayed.
Our quiet times should be a place where we are alone with God. No phones, no computers, or anything else that distracts us. It is a time where we can be in the Word getting fed; hearing from God and asking Him to help us understand what He is saying to us. Our quiet time is a time to talk to God from the heart and give thanks for who He is. It is also a time to spend worshipping Him.
Setting quiet time aside each day to talk with God, is the best way to draw close to Him.
Father God, help me find a place where it is quiet, away from all distractions to spend time with you.
