“Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk."
- Acts 3:2-3, 6
Can you think of a specific time that you had an incredible opportunity in front of you and you let fear stop you? When I was a kid, I never jumped off a diving board, went down the slide at the pool, or conquered the monkey bars, not because I didn’t have the opportunity, but because I was too afraid. Now I try very hard to never pass up the opportunity to try something adventurous. This is not because I am a thrill seeker, trust me, I’m terrified, but I just don’t want to miss the opportunity in front of me.
I’m going to guess that Peter had to push back fear when he told the crippled man to “walk”, but the chance to see Jesus work a miracle in this man’s life was greater. It was not an opportunity that Peter wanted to miss out on. God placed Peter in the right place at the right time to do something great, and He does the same thing with us. He places us in workplaces filled with opportunities to share His love. He puts people in our lives every day who desperately need someone to speak truth into their lives. So let’s not allow fear or anything else stop us from taking every opportunity that God gives to see someone’s life changed forever.
God, thank you that you use us to share your love and grace with people. Help us to see every opportunity to put in front of us. Do not let fear stop us, but let us jump at the chance to share about who you are.
