What’s In Your Mouth?
“I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.”
Did you know…
The word "tongue" is referred to over 100 times in the Bible?
The word "words" is referred to over 500 times in the Bible?
The word "lips" is referred to over 100 times in the Bible?
The word "mouth" is referred to over 400 times in the Bible?
The Bible speaks a lot about the influence of our words and warns about the careless words we speak:
· “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger,” says Proverbs 15:1.
· “Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones,” Proverbs 16:24 adds.
· Ephesians 4:29 says, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”
· And Matthew 12:36-37 says, “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
It is safe to say that what words we say and how we say them is important to the Lord. Think back through the past 24 hours. When you spoke to others, did your words bring life or destruction? Did they crush or build up? Did you give a soft answer or did you stir up trouble? That’s why I love the challenge give in our verse today, “I have RESOLVED…” Let’s resolve today to be wise with each word we speak.
Jesus, let my words bring life, not death. May I think and measure my words before I speak them. May my words reflect hope, joy, grace, strength and courage today. Use my words to bring someone closer to You today. Amen.
