Half Empty or Half Full?
“I’m not saying this because I need anything. I have learned to be content no matter what happens to me.”
So what is your view? Are you someone who has a difficult time seeing the good things in life or are you someone that always sees the bright side? In order for this question to work you need to be completely honest and transparent with yourself. Also, when pondering this question ask yourself another question: “How do others view my outlook?” Because we don't live in a vacuum, our view not only affects ourselves, but it can affect others as well. This is especially true if God has placed you in a position of leading others.
As a follower of Christ I should always look at my glass as "half full," right? Then why doesn't that happen all the time? I have a couple of thoughts on this but the main one is...ME! I find myself saying, "This would be better if...” instead of looking at what I do have or what God has accomplished in my life. I’m dissatisfied and discouraged. If we boil it down it's lack of contentment.
The definition of contentment is: the state of being happy and satisfied; the state of being content. Content means pleased and satisfied, not needing more. Just as I choose to be a follower of Christ, I also choose how I view life. I should be choosing to look through life with a Christ "filter" on, which chooses to focus on the good things in life.
Please don’t misunderstand me, I believe we should always do our best, we should have goals, desires, and strive in every area of our lives to glorify Christ, but when it is all said and done if it isn’t perfect or what “we” wanted, we need to look at what was accomplished instead of what wasn’t. We should look at what good God did do, instead of what we thought should have happened. The enemy of our soul will ALWAYS focus and point out to us where we fell short or didn’t accomplish all we had desired. He will use this to discourage us and keep us from striving to do more.
Just as we made a choice to be a Christ follower, we can also choose on how to view things, half empty or half full, the choice is yours. Choose wisely.
Father God, help me to learn to be content and cease to strive in my own thoughts. Help me to trust and find peace in my soul and do my best, letting the outcome belong to You!
