Pray, Sing, Ask

“Are any of you suffering hardships?  You should pray.  Are any of you happy?  You should sing praises.  Are any of you sick?  You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord.  Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well.  And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.”
- James 5:13-15 NLT

It is not often that the scriptures give us an equation to get certain outcomes for our lives, but we see it happen here.  I know all of us have experienced trouble, hardships, distress and pain, and James shows us the first step in that is to pray.  I think more than that James wants us to realize whatever circumstance we are in it is always the right time to pray.

We also see that if we are dealing with sickness then the first step is to bring the need to the leaders in the church and ask them to pray.  Week in and week out our pastoral team and prayer team pray over the needs of the church and pray prayers of faith believing for those miracles.  Our prayer team is also available each Sunday to pray for you after each service.  We do these things because scripture has shown us that this is how we are supposed to minister to people in the church.

The most amazing part of this scripture to me is that God is never satisfied with just healing a physical need he always wants to draw us close to Him.  We are reminded that when God heals he is most interested in healing us from the inside out.  He will forgive our sin and bring us back into a right relationship with Him in the process of healing our illnesses.

For those who are happy and life is going great, we have a job to do too.  Sing!  Take a moment today to show God how grateful you are for his protection, provision, promises and blessings on your life!

Prayer Starter
Father, we thank you and praise you for your great love, compassion, protection and provision on my life.  I am so grateful to you for giving me good things and keeping my life on the right path.  We ask today that you would hear our prayers and we would experience a miracle in our lives.  Lord, give me strength today to get me back on my feet and give me strength for what is ahead.
