Words To Live By
With what shall I come before the Lord and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Wow... what a passage of scripture! When I was first presented with these three verses several years ago, as I was reading each word, I felt as if God was literally writing on my heart. It was this statement that was given to me as charge, when I crossed the threshold from student to graduate and it has helped to guide my steps every day since. Take a moment to read the words again:
Act Justly… Love Mercy… Walk Humbly with your God.
These are words to live by today. Take just a moment to apply them to your life.
Act Justly - Treat each person you encounter with genuine respect, evenhandedness, and integrity, putting into practice the “Golden Rule” (Matthew 7:12).
Love Mercy - Give grace and compassion as Christ has first given an abundance of each to us. Today could be someone’s day of salvation simply as a result of your demonstrate of forgiveness and generosity (2 Corinthians 6:2).
Walk Humbly - The only one that truly deserves reverence and high regard is God. He will receive that as you simply honor Him with your life.
God, I recognize that You require me to take steps every day as I advance in my walk with You. Today I pray that I can simply do what You have already asked of me, and the request is simple. Help me to Act Justly, Love Mercy and Walk Humbly with You.
