The Direction of Stubbornness
“But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the STUBBORN INCLINATIONS of their evil hearts. They went backward and not forward.”
- Jeremiah 7:24
I confess that I often think I know best. I do things my way. I follow the stubborn inclinations of my heart. Often my mantra is: “I’m not stubborn; I’m right!” Truth be told, that attitude has gotten me in more trouble than anything else! Anybody with me on that?
Did you know that stubbornness will always take you somewhere? Look at the last part of that verse, “They went BACKWARD and NOT FORWARD.”
Stubbornness always has a direction. It will lead you AWAY from God and His plan for your life. The longer it takes us to do what God has asked us to do, the further we get away from what He wants for our lives.
What part of your life are you living in stubbornness? Maybe it’s one little part of your life or maybe it’s a big chunk.
· Maybe it’s your entertainment choices.
· Maybe it’s your attitude.
· Maybe it’s a hurt to which you are stubbornly holding on.
· Maybe it’s a bad habit.
When it comes to our relationship with God, the price of stubbornness is too high.
“Always obey the Lord and you will be happy.
If you are stubborn, you will be ruined”
- Proverbs 28:14
Stubbornness can ruin us. It’s time to let go of stubbornness and move forward into this one amazing, precious life that God has for us!
Jesus, I confess that I have a stubborn heart. I often do things my way. Today, I lay my stubborn heart down before you. I surrender every stubborn thought, emotion, word, or action. I want to do life your way not mine. I want to go forward and not backward! Amen!
