As far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
- Psalm 103:12
HAVE YOU EVER had one of those weeks that turn out completely different than how you had planned? Some of you are thinking that is every week! Sometimes it feels that way doesn’t it? Well that was definitely this past weekend for me. My wife and I began a small project in our backyard that should have only taken about 15 minutes. We began pulling out paver stones that were buried in our grass right outside our back door. When we got to the end of the stones that were exposed, we realized that there were more that were completely covered. As we continued to dig those out, they led us to an entire back patio that was buried about one foot underneath the dirt! No wonder we were having drainage issues! This led to a 3-day project that included lots of people’s help and a bobcat.
It seems as though one of the previous owners did not want to deal with the issue of this porch so they just buried over top of it. This may have seemed like an easy fix at first, but it actually ended up leading to many more issues later on. Since they didn’t deal with the issue when it was a small project, it ended up effecting my wife and I in a much more severe way.
Sometimes when you and I have an issue in our life or get hurt by someone else, we may simply bury the issue. This seems to be the easiest fix for the problem. We cover it up with other stuff and forget that it was even there in the first place. But the problem is that it is still there. And then it just gets even more complicated. That buried issues starts causing all sorts of other problems for not only yourself, but also other people around you, causing a whole lot more hurt and pain in the long run. And then, when you finally decide to address the issue, you have to do a lot more work than was ever necessary. Instead of burying our issues, pain, problems and offenses, God wants us to address them and then hand them over to Him. This may not be the easiest solution at the moment, but it will absolutely be the best way to handle it without causing collateral and long-term damage. And the best part is that when we hand our sins and troubles over to God, HE buries them permanently, once and for all!
Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for inviting me to surrender my sins, cares, worries and troubles to you. You don’t desire for me to hold onto these things, but rather you want me to hand them over to you so that you may cast them into the depths of the ocean. Your word says that you will remove my sins from me as far as the east is from the west. I’m so grateful for that today!
